Prusament PLA High Speed

Prusament PLA High Speed is our own in-house made filament with ±0.03mm manufacturing tolerance. The material offers high-speed printing, good bridges and overhangs, and great interlayer adhesion. This makes it suitable for rapid prototyping of functional components.

Caratéristiques

Avantages

  • The fastest Prusament you can print with
  • Improved layer-to-layer adhesion
  • Homogenous glossy surface finish
  • Little to no warping
  • Easy to print, just like the regular PLA

Désavantages

  • Poor heat resistance, similar to PLA. For more resistant materials, use PETG or PC Blend.
  • Some stringing occurs during the printing (can be eliminated with lighter or heatgun)

Utilisation

Rapid prototypes

Prusament PLA High Speed can save up to 20-40% of print time, when compared to regular Prusament PLA. This is suitable for making rapid prototypes before using expensive materials.

Quick replacement parts

Prusament PLA High Speed has high layer-to-layer adhesion. This significantly improves its resistance in the Z axis and makes the material more suitable for quick replacement parts.

Visual models

Fast cooling enables easier printing of bridges and overhangs. This reduces the necessity of using supports and makes better-looking models.

Tensile strength anisotropy coefficient

The Prusament PLA High Speed offers a very high tensile strength anisotropy coefficient, r = 0.60. This coefficient characterizes the ratio of tensile strength in the Z axis to that in the XY axis. The higher the ratio, the greater the tensile strength in all directions. When the r (ratio) reaches the highest possible number (1), the material gets the same tensile strength in every direction.

The Prusament PLA High Speed has the second-highest tensile strength anisotropy coefficient in our materials. And just for quick comparison, PLA and PC Blend both have r = 0.33, whereas PETG has r = 0.38.

Better overhangs

Thanks to enhanced interlayer adhesion and rapid solidification, the filament delivers great overhang performance even at higher ambient temperatures. Prusament PLA High Speed works significantly better than regular PLA in this way.

Glossy homogeneous surface

Prusament PLA High Speed has a satin-to-glossy, homogeneous surface finish. This may be desired in some models, such as various vases. However, the glossy finish tends to emphasize various surface imperfections and print errors. You may know this from the comparison between PLA and PETG – e.g, PETG can get rather glossy, showing imperfections, while the matte PLA’s surface finish is more forgiving. Our high-speed PLA is more similar to that glossy PETG effect – a compromise we had to make to enable higher speeds.

Trucs et astuces de débutant

PLA High Speed is suitable for printing functional components

PLA is generally perceived as a visual-only material. However, it can be used for some low-demand mechanical components as well. Its high toughness with great dimensional stability makes it perfectly suitable for printing various rapid prototypes. And the Prusament PLA High Speed takes this field of use one step further: Its mechanical resistance is improved with better layer-to-layer adhesion, and print times are shortened. You can simply use it for “draft” prints that still need to maintain a professional look.

You can reduce stringing by post-processing or in PrusaSlicer

PLA High Speed performs some minor stringing, even when dried. However, the strings are extremely thin and easy to remove using a lighter. It is possible to tweak the settings in PrusaSlicer and reduce this phenomenon. However, this significantly prolongs the print time.

PLA High Speed is one of the best materials to start with

PLA High Speed is one of the easiest-to-print filaments we make. It’s reliable, and it doesn’t require any print preparations or difficult post-processing methods. If you’re new to 3D printing, it’s a great idea to start with PLA High Speed before using other materials.

Before printing, make sure the print sheet is clean

To achieve the best adhesion, it is important to keep the surface clean. The best option is Isopropyl alcohol available in drugstores, which works the best for PLA and other materials as well. Pour a little amount on an unscented paper towel and wipe the print surface. The print sheet should be cleaned while cold for the best results.

Try wet sanding when post-processing a PLA High Speed print

When post-processing PLA High Speed, it’s better to use wet sanding. Without water, you’ll quickly start heating the plastic by friction, it will melt locally and deform. Also, without water, the sanding material would clog easily.
